AKSEN
Assistance to kids with special educational needs
My school is delighted to collaborate with a charity project called Assistance to Kids with Special Educational Needs (AKSEN project) in Hungary. This project aims to support refugee and Hungarian children with developmental disorders in overcoming educational challenges. AKSEN incorporates various corrective therapies, including painting. I strongly believe in the healing power of art, and my 15 years of experience in teaching children have demonstrated its effectiveness in addressing developmental issues.

I have developed a series of concise art lessons specifically designed for children who struggle with neurological problems and have difficulty maintaining prolonged attention spans, often becoming fatigued quickly. I have tailored the painting sessions to meet the needs of these children, adopting a classical art approach that simplifies the lessons, making them short and engaging. In these lessons, the focus is not solely on the final art piece itself, but rather on the process of holding and controlling a brush, which is directly linked to a child's speech ability. Despite their simplicity, the lessons incorporate working with brushes of various thicknesses and practicing different levels of pressure, as these activities are crucial for developing children's fine motor skills. It is recommended to conduct these lessons in the presence of a mother or another adult assistant who can provide support to the child.

These lessons can also be successfully implemented with typically developing children under 3 years old,
serving as a valuable tool for mothers who are interested in early development activities or simply wish to
spend quality time with their toddlers in a joyful and enjoyable manner.

The following video gives an example of such a lesson. Enjoy.
